IBM Support

Large "BIRT_XLS_xxxxxx-xxxx-xxx..." files are being generated that fill up disk space

Question & Answer

Question

What causes these temp files to get created?

Answer

Normally, when users encounter this issue, it is due to long running custom reports (that are executed against a very large number of records). Based on the investigation that Support has conducted in the past, none of IBM-provided (out-of-the-box) report have ever caused this issue.

These files can be deleted, once Maximo stops writing to them, so that they do not fill up the disk space.
One options is to remove the inefficient custom reports from Maximo application to prevent this situation in the future. In addition, you will need to redesign these reports to make them more efficient and less data intensive
