Error description
When the sb_max setting is changed to less than 600000, the NFS socket falls back to the default value of 61K for the socket send/recv sizes. This can cause NFS IO errors when using the (default) 64K read/write block sizes. NFS errors such as the following could be seen: NFS write error on host abchost.net: 78. The iptrace data will indicate that there are no NFS IO (read/write) calls going over the wire at the time of the error.
Local fix
Either - Figure out why we get to fallback socket size (maybe sb_max < nfs_tcp_socketsize, isno options) ) and correct that or - Reduce read or write size,
Problem summary
Writing to a file in NFS FS may fail with error 78 if sb_max value is set to less than nfs_tcp_socketsize value (provided it is more than the nfs_max_write_size) The iptrace data will indicate that there are no NFS IO (read/write) calls going over the wire at the time of the error.
Problem conclusion
Correct the fallback socketsize value to allow NFS write packets of default size to be sent out over the wire.
Temporary fix
