DOORS client error: DXL Server Failed

Troubleshooting

Problem

IBM Rational DOORS client is terminated with "DXL Server Failed" error.

Symptom

You receive an error from DOORS report window randomly:

DXL server failed: Bad DXL API protocol header (No such file or directory)

Cause

DXL server is started automatically when the DOORS client starts.
DXL server uses a port and if the port is interfered, you receive the
same error.

Diagnosing The Problem

The port number is not fixed and changes every time the
client starts. To find out the port, run the following command:

>netstat -ao |findstr LISTENING

Find doors.exe process ID using task manager. The doors.exe process
should be listening one port.

Resolving The Problem

Check if any application or port scanners interferes the port used by DXL Server.
