Reconfiguring EMC Centera for Guardium

Question & Answer

Question

What steps need to be taken in Guardium in order to reconfigure EMC Centera by changing the IP address ?

Answer

Requirements

  • The IP address of the Centera Server
  • The PEA file from Centera

CLI

1. Verify that Centera is the backup mechanism. From the CLI, run the command:

    show storage-system

If Centera is not the chosen method, set it by running:

    store storage-system centera backup ON

2. Take a System Configuration backup prior to changing the Centera settings.

Guardium GUI

Using admin account, navigate to Administration Console/Data Management/ System Backup. Select EMC Centera in the archive or backup configuration panel and edit the following information:

1. In the Centera Pool Address box, enter the Centera Pool Connection String; for example:

    10.2.3.4,10.6.7.8?/var/centera/us1_profile1_rwe.pea

2. Click the Upload PEA File button to upload a Centera PEA file to be used for the connection string. The Centera Pool Address is still needed.

If the message "Cannot open the pool at this address.." appears, check the size of the Guardium appliance host name. A timeout issue has been reported with Centera when using host names that are less than four characters in length.

3. Click the Apply button to save the configuration. The system will attempt to verify the Centera address by opening a pool using the connection string specified. If the operation fails, you will be informed and the configuration will not be saved.

4. Then Run Once Now to perform the archive or backup using the downloaded PEA file.

5. Confirm that your files have been copied to EMC Centera.

6. Take a system configuration backup.
