Question & Answer
Question
One can manually configure the Data Collector to monitor an application server instance without using the configuration utility. Are there particular points to be considered when configuring the DC on UNIX to communicate with a Managing Server installed on Windows?
Cause
There is a documented procedure in the Installation and Configuration guide:
However some clarifications are needed on how to set the path for the MS installation when it is installed on Windows.
Answer
The first step for manually configuring the DC is to create and edit the DCManualInput.txt file.
To create the DCManualInput.txt file on Linux or UNIX systems, you have to copy the contents of the file
DC_home/itcamdc/etc/was/dcInput_manual.properties
into
DC_home/runtime/profile_name.cell_name.node_name.server_name.DCManualInput.txt.
Then, when you edit the contents of the file to configure the DC communication with a MS installed on Windows, you need paying attention to two things:
1- Make sure that variable FILESEP is set like this:
FILESEP=/
There should be only one slash for a Windows MS
2. Set the variable ms.home in the following format:
ms.home=F:\\ibm\\itcam\\WebSphere\\MS
ms.home should have a Windows path with two slashes.
In case of a path containing blank spaces, you can use double quotes like this:
ms.home="C:\\Program Files\\IBM\\itcam\\WebSphere\\MS"
