Error when connecting to Enterprise Manager or Administrative Console for Content Engine

Troubleshooting


Problem

When launching IBM ECM FileNet P8 FileNet Enterprise Manager (FEM) or IBM ECM FileNet P8 Administrative Console for Content Engine (ACCE), an error occurs and the user cannot login.

Symptom

The following errors appear in the application server logs:

SystemOut.log

SystemErr.log
[08/01/14 11:14:32:665 WET] 0000001d SystemErr     R javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Failed to create InitialContext using factory specified in hashtable [Root exception is java.lang.NullPointerException]

p8_server_error.log
2014-01-16T10:07:19.109 66126612 EJB  FNRCE0066E - ERROR An unexpected exception occurred.  The unexpected exception is chained to this exception. Message was: Failed to create InitialContext using factory specified in hashtable

The Content Engine System Health page appears as follows (Note: There is no reference to the GCD Database):


Cause

The jdbc data source connections to the GCD database are either corrupted or incorrectly configured.

Resolving The Problem

  • Delete the JDBC connections to the GCD database in the application server.
  • Rerun the FileNet Configuration Manager and run the Configure GCD JDBC Data Sources.
