IBM Support

Setting the default workspace location for IBM Data Studio

Troubleshooting

Problem

When working in a virtualized environment, the Data Studio client points to a default location, for example @user.home, and you must manually navigate to your network drive where your workspace is stored.

Resolving The Problem

You can specify the default workspace location for Data Studio by editing the osgi.instance.area variable in the config.ini file that is located in the directory where you installed the product.

Example:

If you install IBM Data Studio v4.1.0.1 in the default installation directory on a 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows 7, you can open the config.ini file at:
C:\Program Files\IBM\DS4.1.0.1\configuration\config.ini

If you configure the $APPDATA$ Windows environment variable to specify the default workspace location, you can use the $APPDATA$ environment variable to specify the default workspace location in Data Studio, for example:
osgi.instance.area=$APPDATA$/some/path/to/workspace

More information about configuring Eclipse is available in the online documentation at Eclipse.org: The Eclipse runtime options.
