Abstract
To more quickly and accurately address your issues, we are making an important change to our IBM Software Appliance Service Request process. This document explains how to find Serial Numbers for your IBM PureData System for Analytics (Netezza) Appliances.
Content
Why do I need to know my Serial Number?
Previously, you provided only your IBM Customer Number (ICN) to open Service Requests. To enable IBM Support Engineers to more quickly address your issue, you will now also need to provide your Serial Number when opening Service Requests.
Please review this technote for more information about this change.
How to find your Serial Number:
Serial Numbers for PureData for Analytics (Netezza) Appliances are seven characters long, starting with either the two alphabetic characters NZ or the two numeric digits 78, followed by 5 numeric digits.
You can look up your Serial Number by referring to the nzstats command output.
Example output:
[nz@NZ10000 ~]$ nzstats

The Serial Number shown in the nzstats output may be prefaced by 4 numeric digits which denote the Machine Type, then 2 characters and a number which denote the Model Type of the appliance. In this instance, this will be followed by the 7 characters of the Serial Number.
Older Models
If your Serial Number is longer than 7 characters and does not contain the alphabetic characters NZ followed by 5 numeric digits you may have an older system with a pre-IBM Serial Number. You can derive your Serial Number using the following table:
Appliance | Serial Number Example |
PureData for Analytics 100 | Your serial number is NZ10 + the final three characters of Serial Num:
Model = IBM Netezza 100-1 In this example, Serial Number = NZ10152 |
PureData for Analytics N1001 | Your serial number is NZ80 or NZ81 + the final three characters of Serial Num:
Model = IBM Netezza 1000-6 In this example, Serial Number = NZ80568 |
