Creating data source in Rational Publishing Engine results in error "The connection to DOORS could not be established"

Problem

Attempts to create data source in IBM Rational Publishing Engine (RPE) results in error "The connection to DOORS could not be established"

Symptom

The full error message is as follows:

Unable to create RPE Data source due to Error 'The connection to DOORS could not be established'
com.ibm.rational.rpe.doors_schema.exception.DoorsSchemeException: java.io.FileNotFoundException:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\temp\tmpDOORS\0444801b-99c5-4791-9fac-188e4e3713e8.xml (The system cannot find the file specified)

Cause

Addins feature in RPE isn't installed correctly

Diagnosing The Problem

Verify the following:

  1. Verify registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Telelogic\DOORS\9.5\Config\addins does not exist.

  2. Verify if the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Telelogic\DOORS\9.5\Config\addins is pointing to %RPE_HOME%

  3. Verify if DOORS is started using a -addins command line argument pointing to a custom addins folder. Close all RPE and DOORS instances.

    To rule out this you can start DOORS using the doors.exe in the DOORS installation folder and check if this issue persists.

Resolving The Problem

Follow the steps mentioned below to resolve the error message while creating data source in RPE:

  1. Close all RPE and DOORS instances.

  2. Open IBM Installation Manager

  3. Click on Modify

  4. Select RPE installation

  5. Click on Next until you reach the features window

  6. Uncheck Install Addins feature

  7. Finish the modification.

  8. Perform steps 2-4 by checking Install Addins this time and Finish modification.
