Object heading number with Hyphen(-) in a Rational DOORS module

Question & Answer

Question

Why does object heading number contain hyphen (-) for example, 1.1-1 in some situation in a IBM Rational DOORS module?

Answer

When an Object Heading's parent is Object Text, this would lead to hyphens in heading number.
For example, the following steps will result in object heading number with hyphen.

1. Create a new module.
2. Create one Object Heading with Object Number 1.
3. Create another child Object Heading with Object Number 1.1.
4. Add a column for Object Number.
5. Right-click Object Heading 1 and select Properties. Add text in Object Text.

Now you will See that the object number for first object will change to 0-1 and for child object it will show 0-1.1.

In other situation, importing some word documents containing auto-shape results in incorrect section numbers with hyphen.

Object number uses hyphen for an Object Text. So if a parent object is Object Text, heading number will have a hyphen.

To avoid this, rearrange objects so that an Object Heading has only Object Heading as parents.
