IBM Support

Message: "A CMS exception occurred ..." when starting DOORS

Question & Answer

Question

What does the "A CMS exception occurred initialising a message producer: 'Connection refused'" message -- which sometimes shows up when starting IBM Rational DOORS on Linux or UNIX -- mean?

Cause

When starting IBM Rational DOORS on Linux or UNIX, if DOORS has Data Control Notifications enabled, you will see this message if DOORS Web Access is not running.

Answer

When starting IBM Rational DOORS on Linux or UNIX, you may sometimes see a message like this:

A CMS exception occurred initialising a message producer: 'Connection refused'

This message occurs when DOORS has Data Control Notifications (DCN) enabled but DOORS Web Access (DWA) is not running. When DCN is enabled, DOORS will try to connect to the DWA Broker upon startup. If DWA is not running, the connection will be refused.
