How do I re-build a Guardium Appliance?
Answer
If you are required to re-build an existing appliance please follow the steps below:
A. Preinstall PREPARATION STEPS:
1. Take System Backup
GUI->Administration Console -> Data Management-> System backup
Select both Configuration and Data options.
Record details of the System backup Configuration screen as the same details will be required if a restore is ever needed.
2. Check "Shared Secret" value.
If this is a managed unit, confirm that you have the "shared secret" so that it can be re-registered after the re-build. If you do not know the shared secret it will require support assistance to identify it.
3. Make note of your BIOS password. To find the password you can consult the following article BIOS password
4. Download the required installation media from Passport Advantage. Please ensure a current ISO is used as older ISOs may contain expired MySql certificates.
5. Record the output for each of these cli command
• show net int all
• show net res all
• show net routes def
• show network resolver all
• show system hostname
• show system domain
• show system ntp all
B. INSTALL APPLIANCE:
The steps for installation of the media can be found online in the Install the IBM Guardium Image section of the IBM Documentation.
C. CONFIGURE APPLIANCE:
Once installation is complete you will need to configure the appliance as detailed in the Setup Initial and Basic Configuration section of the IBM Documentation.
This details the running and setting of the following essential commands required for configuration:

• store network interface ip xx.xx.xx.xx
• store network interface mask x.x.x.x
• show network interface all
• store network routes default route x.x.x.x
• show network routes defaultroute
• store network resolver 1 x.x.x.x ( repeat for resolver 2 and 3 as necessary )
• show network resolver all
• store system hostname xxxxx
• store system domain <yourdomain.com>
• show system fullname
• store system shared secret <value>
• restart system

Time zone, Date and Time
D. POST INSTALL STEPS:
Register the appliance with your Central Manager if applicable
Install Required patches from the Central Manager
Apply config from the Central Manager (this could also be achieved by restoring your System backup config )
