Troubleshooting
Problem
When trying to install Datastage v8.7 on Windows 7, the following error occurs: Microsoft Script Engine must be working correctly.
Diagnosing The Problem
Using a text editor, create the following script:
- Input the following lines:
WSH.Echo("Hello World");
WSH.Quit( ); - Save the file as Hello.js
- Run the script at the command prompt as the Administrator user:
Hello.js
If the error shown is: Loading script C:\temp\hello.js failed (Access is denied)
This shows that an antivirus software is preventing a script from being written to the temp directory.
Resolving The Problem
To resolve the issue:
- Check the Event Viewer:
- Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application
- In the details pane, check for warnings or errors and double click to view the information
- Check if an antivirus software is running and preventing a script from being written to the temp directory.
- If the antivirus software is preventing a script to write to the temp directory, disable the antivirus software during the DataStage client install. The antivirus software can be enabled after the install is completed
