Problem
Attempts to import a RIF package results in SAX Parsing Fatal Error when using IBM Rational DOORS.
Symptom
Clicking OK after specifying a RIF Package file name in the Import RIF Package File - DOORS window results in the error:
SAX Parsing Fatal Error
Failed to import RIF
Cause
Rational DOORS fails to read the RIF package file in XML format before starting to process it.
Resolving The Problem
Steps to resolve the issue:
- Open the RIF file using a browser or a XML editor
- Ensure there is no missing TAG(s) mismatch in the file
- Ensure the file encoding is UTF-8 without BOM (Byte Order Mark).
- Remove BOM (
EF BB BF) in the beginning of the file by using a binary editor if the BOM exists.
