Problem

Starting IBM Rational DOORS server on Windows 2008 from a DOS terminal returns a Fatal Exception error.

Symptom

Run the following command in a DOS terminal:

doorsd -start


The following error message is reported:

FATAL EXCEPTION: WinException: StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed,
trying to run service from command line?;
The service process could not connect to the service controller;
.\service_win32.c<288>; v9.3

Cause

The command has been executed in DOS terminal which is not running as Administrator. Even if you are the Administrator or a user of the Administrators group, you must run the DOS terminal as Administrator.

Resolving The Problem

Start the DOS terminal as follows:

  1. Open the windows Explorer

  2. Go in the directory c:\windows\system32

  3. Right click cmd.exe

  4. Select: Run as Administrator
