Accessing a project in Rational DOORS results in "Could not open folder... database error"

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to access a project in IBM Rational DOORS results in the error "Could not open folder... database error".

Symptom

When you try to open a project in Rational DOORS, you get the following error:

"CRCRD5087W: Could not open folder /DOORS database/<Project name>. database error"

Cause

Lock files present in Rational DOORS database project folder will prevent accessing the project.

Resolving The Problem

  1. Shut down DOORS server (service) using How to shut down DOORS database server from the command line
  2. Rename or remove the lock.dtb and lock.dtc files present in the Rational DOORS project .mod folder to lock.dtb.bak and lock.dtc.bak.
Note: A simple name change does not suffice. The lock.dt* file extension must also be changed!
