DWA server error "failed to register active session"

Troubleshooting


Problem

After upgrading the product attempts start IBM Rational DOORS Web Access (DWA) server result in "Active Session Agent Thread ERROR ... Failed to register active sessions".

Symptom

You can not establish a connection to the DWA in your browser.

The following error is displayed in DOORS Web Access Server log:

"...[Active Session Agent Thread] ERROR com.telelogic.festival.session.ActiveSessionAgent  - [Message:Failed to register active sessions: unexpected exception: %1s : Caused by: unexpected XML element. Expected <DRX>. Found <Container> with <ers-418ae5307ff23c34>][ClientLoggingId:null][ServletLoggingId:545415275397480088]
[rmLoggingId:0][SessionId:ActiveSessionAgent][subSystemId:RM_STACK]"

Cause

You upgraded your product and you can not login

Resolving The Problem

When you start the DWA components you must use compatible versions of the following product components:

  • DOORS database server

  • DWA Message Broker

  • DOORS Interoperation Server

  • DWA Server


This type error has been reported in environments where the startup scripts from the original installation are used to start DWA instead of the startup scripts of the newer installed version.
