IBM Support

SSFS 9.2 and IBM Installation Manager require Unprivileged and Same User

Troubleshooting

Problem

If the IBM Installation Manager is installed as a different user than the intended user for the SSFS installation, then the Installation Manager will report that no registry information is present. If the IBM Installation Manager is installed with administrative privileges, then by default it will try to have administrative privileges when running a normal installation, which will cause this problem, "cannot run as root".

Symptom

Installation Manager will report that administrator privileges are requires, but Application Installer will report that it cannot run as root.

Cause

Installing Installation Manager as superuser or root

Environment

All Linux/Unix

Diagnosing The Problem

Message from Installation Manager, "administrative privileges are required" or "Cannot run as root"

Resolving The Problem

Reinstall the IBM Installation Manager as a normal user, then perform the SSFS installation as the same user.
