Troubleshooting
Problem
Running a repair discordance operation on a VOB root element inside a web view in the ClearCase Remote Client reports a load discordance or a NullPointerException even when the client and server state are in sync and there is no actual discordance.
Symptom
Performing a repair discordance on a VOB root element reports a load discordance or a NullPointerException, as shown below:
Figure 1: The Repair Discordance dialog reports a load discordance on the VOB root element
Figure 2: Error dialog with NullPointerException when Repair Discordance action is run on VOB root
Note: As of ClearCase 9.0.1.13 onwards, NullPointerException no longer occurs; however the rest of this technote still applies.
Although the Repair Discordance dialog states that the "Object needs to be unloaded," no actual discordance exists in this case.
Cause
The apparent discordance occurs when the web view state on the client does not match the state on the server for the VOB root case. This produces an erroneous report of discordance when none exists and the NullPointerException is another symptom of the same problem.
Environment
ClearCase Remote Client
Resolving The Problem
When you perform a repair discordance operation on the VOB root and you receive a message about load discordance or a NullPointerException, perform a repair discordance operation on the view root to ensure that there is no actual discordance. If the view root does not report discordance, then no actual discordance exists.
