Error description
Monitor enhancements to better measure HyperPAV and zHPF usage.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All zVM Monitor users using HyperPAV and/or * * HPF * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** This APAR fixes three problems dealing with the monotoring data collected for HyperPAV/PAV devices and/or for devices using zHPF channel programs. 1) For DASD devices, the associated control unit's subsystem ID (SSID) is not easily accessible in a monitor record. 2) In the Domain 6 Record 3 MRIODDEV monitor record the IODDEV_RDEVWXCT and IODDEV_RDEVRXCT fields are not being collected for paging devices using zHPF channel programs. 3) In the Domain 6 Record 3 MRIODDEV monitor record for a PAV/HyperPAV base device, read and write counts for I/O's being done on a system attached PAV/HyperPAV Alias device on behalf of the base device are not collected.
Problem conclusion
The solutions to the three problems solved with this APAR are as follows: 1) DASD SSID fields were added to: Domain 1, Record 6 MRMTRDEV - (MTRDEV_CUIDSSID), Doamin 6, Record 3 MRIODDEV - (IODDEV_CUIDSSID) Domain 6, Record 1 MRIODVON - (IODVON_CUIDSSID) Also Montior processing modules HCPMOM, HCPMXI and HCPMNO were updated appropriately to fill them in for DASD devices from the CUIBK field CUIDDSID. ----- 2) In order for RDEVRXCT and RDEVWXCT to be incremented for paging devices using HPF channel programs IORIFLG,IORDPOSD needs to be set (for READS and WRITES) and IORIFLG,IORDWRIT needs to be set (for WRITES) in the HPF paging code. HCPPAJ and HCPPAI have been modified by to set those bits accordingly. ----- 3) Four new counts were added to the RDEV for Base devices that have I/O executed on aliases on behalf of them. There are two write counts (all alias writes, RDEVWRAL, and HPF alias writes, RDEVWXAL) and two read counts (all alias reads, RDEVRDAL, and HPF alias reads, RDEVRXAL). The MRIODDEV monitor record had four corresponding fields added. HCPIOS and HCPIQM were modified to increment these counts as appropriate and HCPMNO was modified to transfer these counts from the base RDEV to the MRIODDEV monitor record.
