Problem
Users sometime receive intermittent error 500 and rc=10053. They are also unable to access the web page.
Symptom
Users sometime receive intermittent error 500 and rc=10053. They are also unable to access the web page. A restart of the web server is required to clear the errors until the problem occurs again.
Diagnosing The Problem
Enabling Trace for http_plugin.log showed rc=10053 with the plug-in marking the application server down.

Resolving The Problem
Network IP traces were taken on the web server and the data shows that the problem is within the plug-in server's operating system. From the network captures, it showed that the socket was completely operational and there was no reason for Windows to pass the 10053 return code to plug-in.
This is a known defect in Microsoft Windows which is resolved with the following hot fix

If the hot fix has already been applied, network packet traces maybe needed on the source and destination servers. Microsoft support should be engaged for further problem determination.
