Question & Answer
Question
Cognos 8x: Reports show header but no data
Answer
When Reports are executed through Sterling Application Console, Only header
data is displayed in report without any actual data.
How to
troubleshoot this?
Verify the following configurations/settings.
1. "Allow anonymous access" is set to "false" in Cognos
configuration.
If Allow anonymous access is set to true, this
allows any user to login. This doesn't enable the sterling authentication and
hence reports will not display data.
2. Check if the
analytics.properties file in <COGNOS_HOME>\c8\webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\classes
folder is referring to the correct URL (The URL of the Node User).
3. The cause also could be if the data source connection is not looking at the
correct database.
Verify that the data source created in Cognos
is pointing to correct database.
4. The best report to quickly
validate would be Participant List Report. Participant List report is a generic
report which is not dependent on the Node user logs into.
Execute
participant list report selecting from Inventory reports. If no data is
displayed in this report, data source and the properties files have to be cross
checked.
5. Run the reports from Cognos URL and see if reports are
fetching data.
If it is the case, there could be some browser
issues, hence data could not be displayed in Sterling Application Console.
Verify the browser settings.
6. This can occur if there are
firewall restrictions. Verify that there are no issues with firewall while
connecting to the cognos/sterling databases.
7. The report is
executed on a transaction data.
Because of the complexity in the
Cognos queries, if the hits are made to the transaction data directly without a
pseudo link to the database, some times report does not retrieve any data. It
is often to notice the delay in execution of the reports.
