How to change the Supply Type for inventory in a warehouse from ONHAND to HELD?

Question & Answer

Question

How to change the Supply Type for inventory in a warehouse from ONHAND to HELD?

Answer

This guide describes how the following requirement can be met:
- In a warehouse, inventory in all zones belongs to inventory statuses with SupplyType ONHAND.
- This is to be changed in such a way that only a single zone has inventory as ONHAND and the inventory in the rest of the zones is changed to SupplyType HELD.

Solution:
1. Create a new inventory status 'A' mapped to supply type ONHAND.
2. Create inventory transition rules for the zone which needs to have inventory as ONHAND to change the inventory status to 'A'.
3. Create a temporary inventory status mapped to supply type HELD.
4. Change the inventory status of inventory in the zone which needs to have inventory as ONHAND to 'A'.
5. Change all the inventory in zones other than this zone, to the temporary inventory status.
6. Change the supply type of all the old inventory statuses to HELD.
7. Change all the inventory in the temporary inventory statuses back to the old inventory status.

Pre-requisite:
All tasks should be completed. There should be no tasks in Open, Held, Suggested or InProgress statuses (as inventory status is stamped on the tasks).
