PI07978: MAINTAIN JOB FAILED WITH SB37 ON SHADOW DATASET WHEN THE SHADOW DATASETS USED MORE THAN 3300 CYLINDERS.

APAR status

Error description

• MAINTAIN job failed with SB37 on shadow dataset when the shadow
  datasets used more than 3300 cylinders.
  Even though Alter command had  ADDVOLUMES(*,*,*,*,*,*,*,*,*)
  This processing WILL NOT increase the UCBs allocated in the
  TIOT for Database.  This is because the ADDVOLUMES request to
  update catalog occurred after the Database was allocated as a
  single volume dataset. To refresh the TIOT for Database requires
  an unallocate followed by a re-allocate using an SVC 99 request.

  MAINTAIN function issues ALTER ADDVOLUMES command for a shadow
  datasets to add the list of candidate volumes, when VOLALLO
  parameter is specified.
  At this time, the UCBs allocated in the TIOT for the shadow
  dataset will not be increased because the ALTER ADDVOLUMES
  request to update catalog occurs after the database is
  allocated as a single volume dataset.
  Therefore, ABENDSB37 can occur when the shadow dataset tries to
  use more than 65,535 tracks or when all space is used on the
  first volume.
  

Problem conclusion

• IHCWTDB5 has been changed to deallocate and allocate the shadow
  dataset to refresh its TIOT after issuing ALTER ADDVOLUMES
  command.
