Problem

Mobile App does not uninstall on cold boot using Windows CE.

Symptom

On a cold reboot of the RF device, the application is not being fully uninstalled.

Error Message

As a result, during a cold boot, the process hangs when the batch file reaches the "wceload /noaskdest \Windows\StartUp\YantraMobileApp_WCE4_5.ARMV4.CAB " step. It hangs up at that point (can't install because application already exists) and the only way to recover is to use task manager to stop the install process, use Control Panel Add/Remove programs to complete the application uninstall, and then install the application.

Resolving The Problem

It was found that in some of the RF devices used (specifically Psion scanners) a cold boot did not uninstall the application completely.

Later it was found that the device had an inbuilt utility which stores installed data in memory to prevent it from getting lost during a cold boot. They actually have a “Total Recall” application which may eliminate the need to store our CAB file in the flash memory.

In summary, some RF vendors provide utilities for restoring applications upon cold boot and these may be used in place of the steps described in this guide.
