Error description

  • OA54595 introduced new function for JES to track storage areas
it returns for various SSIs. After this APAR is installed - if
an SSI call (such as extended status SSI80) is driven under the
initiator task of the address space (before the FSS jobstep
tasks are even attached); then later once the FSS jobstep is
attached and running an abend378-14 can occur in IAZAKSRV.

    ANALYSIS:
As introduced by OA54595, JES common services will track storage
areas returned by JES for various SSIs. To manage/track these
storage areas JES makes use of the cross memory owning TCB
(ASCBXTCB). If an SSI is driven under the initiator task
early in the life of an FSS asid, it will be associated with
a particular ASCBXTCB. However, later when the FSS jobstep is
attached and drives additional SSIs the ASCBXTCB may have
changed. When JES attempts to reference/manage the original SSI
storage block we no longer reference the appropriate/original
ASCBXTCB and encounter abend S378 RC14 when attempting a STORAGE
    RELEASE

    KNOWN IMPACT:
FSS printers impacted. Storage leak of FSVT and/or JESCB blocks

    VERIFICATION STEPS:
    1) OA54595 installed
    2) FSS address space encounters abend378-14 in IAZAKSRV
    3) Early in the lifespan of FSS address space, an SSI such as
SSI80 was driven under initiator task

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
If a subsystem interface (SSI) call, such as extended status
SSI 80, occurs very early under the initiator task of an
address space, subsequently, when a functional subsystem
(FSS) job step runs, an ABEND378-14 may occur in the IAZAKSRV
    (JES address keep services) module.

Problem conclusion

  • TYPE/RESTART(NONE) IPL/REQUIRED(YES) CLPA(YES)

CLPA is needed only if the IAZAKSRV module currently resides
in the pageable link pack area (PLPA).

The ABEND378-14 occurs under the indicated circumstances
because IAZAKSRV specifies the wrong Task Control Block
(TCB) when the module attempts to replace the Functional
Subsystem Vector Table (FSVT) control block.

IAZAKSRV has been modified to replace the FSVT, specifying
the correct TCB, whenever changing jobstep TCBs make this
    necessary.
