Ghost prints printing from one printer, printing old shipping labels or pack slips not requested Where are my prints happening from?

Cause

Resolving The Problem

Checked how many 502 and 503 are running with the Unix command ps -ef | grep whbu50
Ensure that there are no runaway 503 processes.
If no whbu503 is currently running, the problem printer has been turned off. there has been junk prints of shipping labels from months ago that have been printing out from that printer since y'day nite at 7pm.
These all look like really old job request from a long time ago.

Turn the printer off and back on. If prints stop good else checked the prnt_req.log
>tail -f prnt_req.log
11/01/2002| 9:58:33|Req 331190|PID 15292|Req 331190|End|Print Code 966
11/01/2002| 9:58:34|Req 331191|PID 15415|Req 331191|Start|Print Code 966
11/01/2002| 9:58:37|Req 331191|PID 15415|Req 331191|End|Print Code 966
11/01/2002| 9:58:38|Req 331192|PID 15475|Req 331192|Start|Print Code 966
11/01/2002| 9:58:41|Req 331192|PID 15475|Req 331192|End|Print Code 966
11/01/2002| 9:58:42|Req 331193|PID 15583|Req 331193|Start|Print Code 966

966 was a shipping label print code but these requests were stemming from packing of current shippers.

now turned that printer off. Did not have a lpq command.
Checked the 01print.err file in the $BASE/log/app_log directory. there were no messages to this printer lpsea4

tried plugging another printer in the place of this printer. Then the prints continued to come from the new printer.
The print queue was empty. For zebra and HP prints there is a buffer held in the Jet admin box and that box itself had been rebooted. This buffer is only a few prints worth.

The data being printed corresponed to purged waves/cartons. Even less likelihood of the print being fired by the application.
Is the printer connected to a differen Unix system i.e. another Unix system with the information regarding the ship labels (ghost prints) ? If yes pursue these steps

Tried to disable the printer from Unix. This would typically cause prints to this printer being piled up in the system.
Turn the printer on and if it resumes printing the shipping labels this indicates that the prints are not stemming from the application or the Unix machine. Also the printer being a "dumb" printer does not have any print related info so the print data must be coming out of the Jet direct admin server. Involve the IS team/network admin to re-boot and clean up the Jet direct Admin server.
