Cause

Resolving The Problem

Oracle error ORA-00020 comes up when there are more Oracle DB connections than Oracle instances set up in the init{ORA_SID}.ora file. Check the current number of Oracle connections by using the following command:
Unix ==> ps -ef | grep oracle{ORACLE_SID} | wc -l
Cross-check this result with the value for Parameter "processes" in init.ora for that Oracle instance. You can find init.ora in your $ORACLE_HOME directory. Or you can obtain this information from select name, value from v$parameter where name like '%processes%'

Specific Example: In this case, there were a lot of instances of the whbu089 executable running, when only one should have been. These processes were owned by the UserID 'Yantra'. We logged in as 'Yantra' and terminated all these processes. This was a specific example. If you come across such a case, we recommend you to contact Yantra Technical Support for further consultation.
