Support's policy on deleting the records manually instead of running the Purge

Question & Answer

Question

Support's policy on deleting the records manually instead of running the Purge

Answer

Support is getting requests from various customers to delete the records manually instead of running the purge. The reason being:

1) Customer might not have started the purge after their go live and the number of records in the table grow up to millions.

2) Because of the huge number of records in the tables, they may see performance issues.

Support's policy:

Support does not recommend running any queries to delete the data from the tables if the purge is available. Deleting the data from the table thru script may cause data integrity issues. To further add, you can initially run the purge with retention days as higher number and change it to "lower" at later time. Say for ex: start with purging data more than120 days and then move to 90, 60, 30 respectively. This will ensure that number of eligible records to be purged will be less and will not cause any performance impact.
