Question & Answer
Question
What is a Return Pickup Service?
Answer
In Release 8.5 we have a service called "Return Pickup Service" which shall be detailed below.
A Return Pickup Service is used to define a pickup service from a customer, in case the customer wants to return an item. A return pickup item is uniquely defined by its service ID and unit of measure. A Return Pickup Service can be created from the Create Service screen of the Business Center.
However, an important point to note is that Return Pickup Service is a delivery service and will not show up on the Call Center and Sterling Store (aka COM) UI while creating a return order using COM.
There are certain questions which arise and will be clarified below:
1. What is the purpose of allowing a user to add the Return Pickup Service separately? Why will this not show up in the COM UI if it is configured?
- A delivery service will mean that an item needs to be delivered from a node to the customer.
- A Return Pickup service will mean that from customer's location of an item needs to be brought back to the node.
- As per the design, we do not show any delivery service on the UI in COM. Even for a normal sales orders, delivery services are not displayed on the UI. Similarly, the Return Pickup Services are not displayed either.
2. Isn’t a Return Pickup Service the same as adding a Provided Service with 'Is Return Service' as 'Y'?
- No. A Provided Service in general means that a specific activity needs to be performed at a customer location, say installation. A PS with 'Is Return Service' marked as ‘Y’ would mean a specific activity needs to be performed for an item to be returned to the node (for example, un-installation of a Home Theatre system). Thus a simple check suffices to distinguish the nature of PS.
