Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to start the IBM Rational Directory Server result in a failure with the error code: GLPRDB111E.
Symptom
When the start_rds_server.sh
script is run, the following output is observed:
GLPRDB111E The server is unable to use the username and password
combination for the DB2 instance owner in the configuration file to
establish a connection to the database.
Cause
Unknown
Environment
This problem and resolution is only relevant where the Tivoli Directory Server is used by Rational Directory Server. It is not relevant for Apache Directory Server is used by Rational Directory Server.
This has been observed on Solaris and Linux operating systems. It is likely to be the same for AIX and Windows operating systems.
Resolving The Problem
The following steps will resolve this:
1. As user tdsadmin, run the following commands:
%cd /opt/ibm/tdsV6.3db2/instance/
The following command has five arguments:
%./db2istop <INST_OWNER> <RDS_INSTANCE_DIR> <DB2_VERSION> <DB2_DIR> <LOG>
For example (adjust for appropriate directories):
- %./db2istop tdsadmin /var/IBM/Rational/RDS_5.2/Instance 9.7 /opt/ibm/tdsV6.3db2/ /tmp/logfile.txt
2. Run the following as the
root
user in the same directory as specified in step 1.
%./db2iupdt tdsadmin
3. Start the Rational Directory Server using the script
start_rds_server.sh located in
/var/IBM/Rational/RDS_5.2/RDSUtility/
Note: Adjust the paths above as appropriate. The paths used are for example only.
