Debuging Java code using Rational Rhapsody-Eclipse Integration throws failed to connect error

Problem

Attempts to debug java code using IBM Rational Rhapsody-Eclipse Integration results "Failed to connect to remote VM. Connection refused. Connection refused: connect" error

Symptom

You receive the following error:

"Failed to connect to remote VM. Connection refused. Connection refused: connect"

Cause

In the rhapsody.ini file the value of suspend is set to 'n' for the entry "Debug3=-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=6743,server=y,suspend=n"

Resolving The Problem

The following steps will help you resolve this issue

  1. Navigate to the "Rhapsody Installation Directory"

  2. Open the rhapsody.ini file in edit mode

  3. Change the value of suspend to 'y' i.e., "Debug3=-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=6743,server=y,suspend=y"

  4. Save the rhapsody.ini

  5. Open the Rhapsody project and it would allow you to debug from Eclipse.
