'Invalid Command Line' error while invoking Visual Studio 2008 from Rhapsody 7.5.2

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to select the menu option Code > Open IDE from an IBM Rational Rhapsody project results in the error "Invalid Command Line. Unknown Switch : data".

Cause

There is no active integration between Rational Rhapsody and the Microsoft Visual Studio environment.

Resolving The Problem

Modify the Installation to include the following settings

  1. Double click 'IBM Rational Rhapsody 7.5.2.msi' installer.

  2. Set Visual Studio 2008 in the 'Choose development environment' window.

  3. Set Microsoft visual studio 2008 workflow integration in the 'Add-on Installation' window

  4. Complete the Installation.

Addition Steps

In Rhapsody:

  1. Check 'DefaultConfig' settings for the active component
    Right click DefaultConfig > features > settings > Environment = MSVC9 > OK

  2. Change configuration to Visual Studio configuration
    Right click DefaultConfig > Change to > Visual Studio Configuration.
    Here it will launch Visual Studio to create a corresponding project.

  3. After corresponding project is created in Visual Studio, back to Rhapsody, right click 'DefaultConfig'Generate Configuration
    You will see code generated in the corresponding visual studio project directory reflecting in the IDE.
