Troubleshooting
Problem
While trying to export a Microsoft Word document to IBM Rational DOORS on a Microsoft Vista Machine, following error message is displayed: “Unable to communicate with DOORS: DOORS must be started, and you must have opened a project or folder.”
Symptom
Export aborts with the above error message.
Cause
This issue could be generally caused on a Microsoft Windows Vista Machine when Rational DOORS is not installed with Administrator privileges.
Resolving The Problem
To resolve this issue the user should run IBM Rational DOORS as an Administrator.
Detailed steps are as follows:
- Close Rational DOORS as well as Microsoft Word
- Search for the file “winword.exe”
- Right click on “winword.exe” and go to its “Properties”
Under “Compatibility” tab, check the option "Run this program as an administrator" under the Privilege Level - Now, start Rational DOORS and then the Microsoft Word document and try to do the export.
