Problem
Creating a module in IBM Rational DOORS fails with the error message, "A module called 'xxx' already exists in the current folder", though a module with the same name is not seen in the Project or Folder.
Symptom
When trying to create a module in DOORS, the operation fails with:
A module called 'xxx' already exists in the current folder.
Use a different name.
This message appears erroneous, because there does not seem to be an existing module already called 'xxx'.
Cause
When a module is removed, it is no longer visible, though there is still a reference to it in the database.
You cannot see the module because it has indeed been deleted. However, though the module is removed, it actually still exists in the deleted items, which is preventing a new object from being created with the same name.
Diagnosing The Problem
When you get an error message to use a different name for the module that you are attempting to create, you should check the deleted items in the project or folder to confirm whether it does not exist.
Resolving The Problem
You need to remove the old module from the database that has the same name as the new one that you are trying to create:
- Go to DOORS database window menu: View > Show Deleted Items
- This shows modules that are deleted, which should include the one that has the same name as the module that you are trying to create
- You can purge the deleted module or simply use different name for your new module. However, once a module is purged, then the name can be reused.
You are now able to use same name for module/Proejct/Folder in the same Project or Folder in DOORS.
