Truncated element names in an Exploration view causing "member not found (rte 433)" error

Troubleshooting

Problem

Planning Analytics for Excel user is trying to edit an exploration dimension to choose an element; However the action is triggering an error message that indicates the element does NOT exist. The error message is showing the element with the first and last characters truncated.
For instance, if the user selects an element called "Testing" the error will indicate "estin": member not found (rte 433).

Cause

Office connection directory needs to be refreshed to eliminate caching (or xml files that are not loaded properly) especially when upgrading PAfE versions.

Resolving The Problem

1- Make sure Excel is closed.
2- Navigate to the "Office Connection" folder in the user's profile in Windows. For instance: "C:\Users\userprofile\AppData\Local\Cognos\Office Connection.
3- Rename the "Office Connection" directory to "Office Connection_old".
4- Launch Excel, click on the Planning Analytics for Excel ribbon and connect to the PA instance (This step will generate a new Office Connection directory).
5- Connect to your PA server and re-test.
Note: You may need to unhide items under your user profile if you are not seeing the "AppData" directory in step 2
