Collecting Data: Maximo LDAPSYNC and VMMSYNC Troubleshooting

Question & Answer

Question

Collecting data for Application Server Security (LDAP) synchronization. Gathering this information before calling IBM support will help you with the troubleshooting process and save time analyzing the data.

Answer

Maximo Application Server Security (LDAP) Configuration Collecting Data information

This technote describes what information you need to begin troubleshooting a Application Server Security (LDAP) synchronization issue. If you have not compiled the General information, go to General Collecting Data document and include that information before opening a case.

(A) Set logging for the cron task to DEBUG. The following settings are done in the Logging application. To access the Logging application, log in to Maximo as an Administrative User (MAXADMIN in out of the box Maximo)

  1. In Maximo or Control Desk, go to System Configuration > Platform Configuration > Logging
  2. Enable SQL logging for the cron task being used
LDAPSYNC
Create log4j.logger.maximo.sql.crontask.LDAPSYNC.<cronTaskInstanceName>:
  1. Filter for sql.
  2. Select the sql logger.
  3. In the Loggers selection, click New Row
  4. For Logger, enter crontask.LDAPSYNC.<cronTaskInstanceName>, where <cronTaskInstanceName> is the name of the LDAPSYNC cron task instance. (Default value for a single instance is LDAPSYNC01)
  5. If you have more than one active LDAPSYNC cron ask, repeat the steps 3 and 4.
  6. Change the Log Level to DEBUG
  7. Save the record.
  8. On the left or top toolbar, click Apply Settings or the Apply Settings button.
VMMSYNC
Create a new logger called log4j.logger.maximo.sql.crontask.VMMSYNC.<cronTaskInstanceName>:
  1.  Filter for sql.
  2. Select the sql logger.
  3. In the Loggers section, click New Row
  4. Logger, enter crontask.VMMSYNC.<cronTaskInstanceName>, where <cronTaskInstanceName> is the name of the VMMSYNC cron task instance. (Default value for a single instance is VMMSYNC01)
  5. If you have more than one active VMMSYNC crontask, repeat steps 3 and 4 above
  6. Change the Log Level to DEBUG
  7. Save the record.
  8. On the left or top toolbar, click Apply Settings or the Apply Settings button.
Enable SQL logging for the cron task
  • LDAPSYNC: set the log level for log4j.logger.maximo.crontask.LDAPSYNC to DEBUG
  • VMMSYNC: set the log level for log4j.logger.maximo.crontask.VMMSYNC to DEBUG
If there are problems concerning values populated for particular business objects, turn on DEBUG SQL logging for the object(s) - log4j.logger.maximo.sql.<servicename>.<objectname>, for example:
  • log4j.logger.maximo.sql.SIGNATURE.MAXUSER=DEBUG
  • log4j.logger.maximo.sql.SIGNATURE.MAXGROUP=DEBUG
  • log4j.logger.maximo.sql.PERSON.PERSON=DEBUG
  • log4j.logger.maximo.sql.PERSON.EMAIL=DEBUG
  • log4j.logger.maximo.sql.PERSON.PHONE=DEBUG
Apply the changes. In the Logging application, Click Apply Settings.

(B) Collect and post the values of UserMapping and GroupMapping from the cron task parameters. To access Cron Task Setup application, log in to Maximo as an Administrative User (MAXADMIN in out of the box Maximo)

  1. Go to System Configuration > Platform Configuration > Cron Task Setup
  2. Filter for VMMSYNC or LDAPSYNC as appropriate
  3. Copy the text from both the GroupMapping and UserMapping parameters. Paste them into plain text files and post the files to the case.
  4. Collect and post all SystemOut.log from the WebSphere Application Server profile logs server directory of the server running the cron task.
