Troubleshooting
Problem
User has been successfully using the Controller Excel link for a long time. Suddenly, one day the Controller Add-In stops working. I.T. administrator tries uninstalling/reinstalling the Controller Excel Add In - but this does not fix the problem.
Symptom
There are several symptoms:
- User cannot find the Controller toolbar in Excel
- The excel link to Controller does not start when the Excel icon is clicked in Controller.
- "Controller Link" or "Controller.xll" appears in the list of disabled items right at the bottom section
- Screen message/error 'The Excel-link is not installed' when using 'Data Entry - Reported Values'
Cause
There are several different possible causes for the error 'The Excel-link is not installed'.
TIP: For more examples, see separate IBM Technote #1396195.
This IBM Technote relates the the scenario where:
- At some point in the past, Excel crashed
- When Excel was restarted, the user was given the choice whether-or-not to disable the Controller add-in (since Excel thought that this might have been the cause of the previous crash) and the end user agreed
