BiLog: Maximo 76 BI Packs
Body
I packed a sandwich, an apple and a small pack of rolos...those small chocolate candies with sticky carmel inside...because who doesn't buy your favorite Halloween Candy and eat it all so you have to go out and buy more....in my lunch today. Yup. That is a packed sentence.
The BI Packs in Maximo 76 are packed full of functionality. BI (Business Intelligence) Packs are collections of metric reports displayed in Cognos workspaces or dashboards.
In Maximo 76, two different types of BI Packs are available (1) Application Workspaces and (2) Trending Workspaces
Application Workspaces
Application workspaces show the current performance. In this screen shot, the Work Order Management Workspace shows performance of Backlog Work, Overdue Work, Percentage of Planned to Unplanned Labor Hours and Actual to Estimated Costs. Other application workspaces are available for Asset Management, Asset Failure Management and Inventory Management.
The application workspace values are calculated via sql queries against your Maximo database. Application workspaces and their related reports are delivered within the Maximo source.
The Maximo Cognos Installation guide details how to install the application workspaces for Oracle, DB2 and Sql Serve starting in the section titled 'Maximo Cognos Content'.
Additionally, you can find specific details on each workspace and its corresponding report in the Maximo Cognos Content guide or in a video recording
Trending Workspaces
Trending workspaces show metric performance improvement or degradation over time. They are reliant on historical data - so performance of your metrics from last month, last quarter or last year can be displayed.
Maximo does not automatically store performance values in its database. However, by capitalizing on Maximo's KPI features, a suite of KPIs were developed to capture historical values. Each time a KPI is executed via a cron schedule, entries are made in the KPIHISTORY object. These KPIHISTORY values provide the historical data that is displayed in the Trending workspaces.
While many metrics apply to across industries, specific metric variables (like sites or classifications) are unique. For example, the delivered KPIs contain specific maxdemo date like sites Bedford and Texas, and classifications MECH and HVAC. Therefore, the delivered KPI values may not meet your unique business requirements and are available only for download on IBM's ISM Library.
For Oracle and DB2 Databases, the content for the trending workspaces can be found here and the latest installation guide is here
For SQL Server Databases, the content and the latest install guide for the trending workspaces can be found here

So where do you start with this information? My recommendation is to start with the Application workspaces. Begin by installing and configuring them and becoming familiar with Cognos and the new Workspace features. Then, determine if you want to utilize the trending workspaces available on the ISM library - or develop your own.
For more details on the Maximo Cognos Integration, nearly 20 unique videos are available for you detailing not only the Application and Trending workspaces - but also videos on metadata and report creation. Subscribe or bookmark this playlist to access these and future recordings.
Additionally, you can find all the Maximo 76 BI reference materials, including the Cognos docs listed in the 2nd half of this page
