Upgrading to IBM Sterling Connect:Direct for z/OS 5.2.0? Check out the new Initialization Parameter default values.
Body
The new IBM Sterling Connect:Direct for z/OS 5.2.0 release has introduced more realistic Initialization Parameter defaults. In many cases, you may already use these values as a Best Practice. But some defaults may change the way your system operates.
We recommend that you review your current settings and decide if the new defaults fit your processing needs.
All 5.2.0 documentation is now available in our IBM Knowledge Center, so you can see the details here in the Release Notes and Administration Guide: https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFGBN_5.2.0/kc_welcome-444.html
Here is a list of the new default values taken from the Release Notes:
DEBUG = 00200000
TCP.TIMER = 300
TCP.FMH.TIMER = 10
TCP.CONNECT.TIMEOUT= 30
V2.BUFSIZE = (32K,128K)
CHECK.CERT.EXPIRE = YES
CKPT = 10M
NON.SWAPABLE = YES
STAT.QUEUE.ELEMENTS = 1500
STRNO.MSG = 10
TAPEIO = BSAM
GDGALLOC = GENERATION
INVOKE.ALLOC.EXIT.ON.RESTART = YES
INVOKE.ALLOC.EXIT = BOTH
REQUEUE = YES
Of these changes, here are a few that may interest you.
Allow all dumps to be processed. Before, duplicate dumps could be suppressed, making analysis more difficult:
DEBUG = 00200000
Improve TCP issues and prevent hung sessions:
TCP.TIMER = 300
TCP.FMH.TIMER = 10
TCP.CONNECT.TIMEOUT= 30
Checkpointing is now turned on by default:
CKPT = 10M
More efficient transmission buffer size:
V2.BUFSIZE = (32K,128K)
Prevent issues with GDG's when multiple processes write to the same base.
GDGALLOC = GENERATION
