Troubleshooting
Problem
A report with an SQL Query object fails with error:
RQP-DEF-0617 User defined SQL is not permitted due to missing model or package.
Symptom
Cause
The report is not associated to a package or data module.
Diagnosing The Problem
Steps used to encounter thee error:
- Login to Cognos Analytics
- Create a new report
- From the Insertable objects, add an SQL object
- Select a Data source to use
- Write an SQL statement and click Validate or Ok
The error occurs:
RQP-DEF-0617 User defined SQL is not permitted due to missing model or package

Resolving The Problem
Associate the report to a package or data module that has the User Defined SQL capability.
- On the Source tab, click the + icon to add report data
- Select a package or data module
