IBM i Access - for Web Features

7.2 IBM i Access for Web has been optimized for mobile access. You can now easily access your IBM i resources from a mobile device. This version provides a mobile friendly view of the IBM i Access for Web features when viewed from a browser on a mobile device or the traditional view of available features when using a browser from the desktop. 7.2 IBM i Access for Web has added support for:

  • A dashboard for viewing CPU utilization, page faults, disk utilization, disk pool usage, jobs, and operator messages.
  • Viewing active jobs on the system in three different views similar to the CL command WRKACTJOB
  • Viewing PTFs and PTF Groups similar to the CL commands DSPPTF and WRKPTFGRP
  • A new System category for displaying Installed Products, System Values and other system related information
  • IBM integrated web application server for i Version 8.5
  • RC4 and AES encryption types with SPNEGO environments
  • Password expiration based on the QPWDEXPWRN system value
  • 5250 secure telnet connections. See IBM Software Technote N1020432 for additional information. 
7.2 IBM i Access for Web is supported on IBM i releases 7.4, 7.3 and 7.2 IBM i Access Family (57xx-XW1) customers can acquire 7.2 IBM i Access for Web and stay on their current release of IBM i. Refer to Ordering/upgrading.
IBM i Access for Web offers browser-based access to IBM i. IBM i Access for Web enables end users to leverage business information, applications, and resources across an enterprise by extending the IBM i resources to the client desktop or a mobile device through a web browser.

IBM i Access for Web...

  • is system based; there is no code running on the desktop or mobile device.
  • is implemented using Java Servlet technology.
  • uses industry standard protocols - HTTP, HTTPS and HTML.
  • is lightweight, requiring only a browser.
  • runs batch commands, provides access to database, integrated file system, printers, printer output, and messages, and a 5250 interface.

Supported Environments

7.2 IBM i Access for Web is supported with these web application servers:

  • IBM Integrated Web Application server for i
  • WebSphere Application Server (WAS) V9.0 for IBM i and WAS V8.0 Network Deployment for IBM i 
  • WebSphere Application Server (WAS) – Express V8.5 for IBM i, WAS V8.5 for IBM i, and WAS V8.5 Network Deployment for IBM i
  • WebSphere Application Server (WAS) – Express V8.0 for IBM i, WAS V8.0 for IBM i, and WAS V8.0 Network Deployment for IBM i
  • WebSphere Application Server (WAS) – Express V7.0 for IBM i, WAS V7.0 for IBM i, and WAS V7.0 Network Deployment for IBM i
  • WAS - Express V6.1 for i5/OS, WAS V6.1 for i5/OS, and WAS V6.1 Network Deployment for i5/OS

In addition to the above, IBM i Access for Web can be used with any of the following portal servers:

  • WebSphere Portal V8.0
  • WebSphere Portal V7.0
  • WebSphere Portal for Multiplatforms V6.1
