This document details the Hardware & Software requirements for Data Protection for Oracle 8.1.9.

IBM Spectrum Protect for Databases: Data Protection for Oracle 8.1.9 supports valid Oracle environments that meet all requirements defined by that product, and also meet the specific requirements listed in this document.

Software requirements

The following information describes the minimum operating system and software requirements when you use Data Protection for Oracle 8.1.9.

Operating Environments

The following additional operating environments are supported:

  • Oracle Real Application Clusters as supported with the level of Oracle used in your environment
  • Solaris 10 and 11 global zones as supported by the Oracle database used in your environment
  • Solaris 10 and 11 non-global (local) zones as supported by the Oracle database used in your environment

     

Installation prerequisites

  • For the Linux x86_64 platform, Linux on Z, Solaris SPARC and Solaris x86_64 platforms:
    The following prerequisites are required by the product installer:
    • Java JRE 8 and later 8.x levels
        
  • Windows x64 platform
    The following prerequisites are also required, and are installed automatically by Data Protection for Oracle 8.1.9, if not already present on your machine.
    • 64-bit Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package
      Available in the following subdirectory of the installation image (DVD or downloaded image):
      .....\ISSetupPrerequisites\ "{3A3AF437-A9CD-472f-9BC9-8EEDD7505A02} "\vcredist_x64.exe
      Note: The installation package includes the above prerequisites which will be installed automatically if not already installed onto the system. Installation of these prerequisites may require a system restart. To avoid a system restart, ensure that these prerequisites are installed before starting the Data Protection for Oracle installation process.


 

More software requirements

  • On all 64-bit platforms: 64-bit IBM Spectrum Protect API 8.1.9 or later update levels, releases, and versions
    Note: The 64-bit IBM Spectrum Protect API Version 8.1.9 is included and automatically installed with Data Protection for Oracle on 64-bit platforms.
     
  • All platforms: Any Tivoli Storage Manager or IBM Spectrum Protect Server currently in support which is supported by the version of the IBM Spectrum Protect API Client, or IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client, used in the environment
    Note: IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client or API and Server compatibility information see: IBM Spectrum Protect Server-Client Compatibility and Upgrade Considerations
     
  • All platforms except Windows and AIX: IBM or Oracle Java 8, and later mod levels and fix packs
     
The following software is required for usage of IBM Spectrum Protect Central Scheduling:
  • On all 64-bit platforms except for Solaris SPARC and HPUX:
    • 64-bit IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client 8.1.9 or later update levels, releases, and versions.
    • For Solaris SPARC use the latest 7.1.x 64-bit IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client supported with Solaris SPARC, which as of this writing is 7.1.6.
    • For HPUX use the latest 7.1.x 64-bit IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client supported with HPUX, which as of this writing is 7.1.6.

Hardware requirements

The following information describes the minimum hardware and disk space requirements when using Data Protection for Oracle.

  • Compatible hardware supported by the operating system and Oracle
Disk space
  • A minimum of 25 MB of disk space
  • Optionally: At least 11 MB of disk space for each language lack to be installed (there are 9 available).
Note: Some of the prerequisites defined in this document may require a system restart. To avoid a system restart, ensure that all of the minimum software requirements prerequisites detailed in the Installation prerequisites section of this document are installed before starting the Data Protection for Oracle installation process.
On Linux x86_64 platform Minimal requirement

  • 64-bit x86 based PC architecture hardware (such as Pentium)
  • 64-bit AMD64/EM64T architecture hardware
  • Compatible hardware supported by the operating system and Oracle
Disk space
  • A minimum of 20 MB of disk space
  • Optionally: At least 10 MB of disk space for each language lack to be installed (there are 9 available).
Note: Some of the prerequisites defined in this document may require a system restart. To avoid a system restart, ensure that all of the minimum software requirements prerequisites detailed in the Installation prerequisites section of this document are installed before starting the Data Protection for Oracle installation process.
On Linux on System z platform Minimal requirement

  • Any System z machine that is supported by the operating system and Oracle
Disk space
  • A minimum of 20 MB of disk space
  • Optionally: At least 13 MB of disk space for each language lack to be installed (there are 9 available).
Note: Some of the prerequisites defined in this document may require a system restart. To avoid a system restart, ensure that all of the minimum software requirements prerequisites detailed in the Installation prerequisites section of this document are installed before starting the Data Protection for Oracle installation process.
On Solaris Sparc platform Minimal requirement

  • Sun-4 SPARC, or newer hardware
  • Compatible hardware supported by the operating system and Oracle
Disk space
  • A minimum of 20 MB of disk space
  • Optionally: At least 10 MB of disk space for each language lack to be installed (there are 9 available).
On Solaris x86_64 platform Minimal requirement

  • Systems based on x86-64 processor architecture such as Intel 64 or AMD64
  • Compatible hardware supported by the operating system and Oracle
Disk space
  • A minimum of 20 MB of disk space
  • Optionally: At least 10 MB of disk space for each language lack to be installed (there are 9 available).
On Windows x64 platform Minimal requirement

  • Compatible hardware supported by the operating system and Oracle
Disk space
  • A minimum of 80 MB of disk space
  • Optionally: At least 25 MB disk space for prerequisites included in the installation package (which are installed automatically if they are not already installed on the system).
  • Optionally: At least 5 MB of disk space for each language lack to be installed (there are 9 available).
Note: The installation package includes the above referenced prerequisites which will be installed automatically if not already installed onto the system. Installation of the these prerequisite may require a system restart. To avoid a system restart, ensure that all of the minimum software requirements prerequisites detailed in the Installation prerequisites section of this document are installed before starting the Data Protection for Oracle installation process.
