Java null pointer exception while using Informix JDBC driver version 4.50 and large character data types

Problem

A Java Null Pointer exception may occur while using the Informix JDBC driver and large character data types.

Symptom

Requests to the Informix JDBC driver fail with java.lang.NullPointerException
    at com.informix.jdbc.IfxLob.getPortion(IfxLob.java:287)
    at com.informix.jdbc.IfxCblob.getSubString(IfxCblob.java:252)

Resolving The Problem

Upgrade to  Informix JDBC driver 4.50JC1X2  or higher which addresses the Java Null Pointer exception.
