Symptom |
---|
When a user logs in remotely to the IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA) Web interface and launches the remote control option, an applet window will open but no graphics will be displayed on the window. There may be repeated attempts to launch remote control (graphics), but no video data will be displayed.
Note: This issue is only with viewing operating system in (supported) graphics mode remotely. It does not impact remote text sessions i.e. viewing POST or operating system load process (in text mode) remotely. Also, there are no issues on the local server with the RSA card installed.
Affected configuration |
---|
The system is configured with the following option(s):
- an IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter, option part number 09N7585, FRU 36L9912.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software. Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/nos/matrix.shtml
Solution |
---|
It is assumed that the RSA and the server were restarted (i.e. rebooted) in order to resolve this issue, but the problem still persists. To resolve this issue, power must be removed from the RSA. This usually requires removing power to the entire system (i.e. unplugging the box). Wait about 20 seconds, then restore power to the system and restart it. This will clear the issue discussed above.
Additional information |
---|
Under certain (rare) circumstances, the DMA data channel on the RSA is "stuck" in a failed mode, so the DMA engine can't run the video buffer transactions needed for remote control. Since the RSA cannot get the video data, all attempts to do so will fail. This prevents the RSA from displaying the video/graphics data on the remote client. The fix clears all RSA registers and any "stuck" channels after a power up and normal operation will resume.
