MustGather: WebSphere Intelligent Management - Application Placement Controller(APC)

Troubleshooting

Problem

The following instructions describe the must gather documentation to resolve issues with the Application Placement controller (APC). The APC is the capability that determines the behavior of Intelligent Management functionality such as dynamic clusters.

Resolving The Problem

1. Before reproducing the problem, enable the following trace specification on the process where the APC controller is running.  It is possible for the APC controller to be running on the Deployment Manager or any of the node agents in the cell therefore we recommend configuring the APC controller to start on the Deployment Manager or a specific node agent process, which aids in generating and gathering the logs. Use these instructions to configure the Application Placement controller to start on your Deployment Manager or node agent. Once the property has been set, trace should be enabled on that process as that is where Application Placement controller is running.
com.ibm.ws.xd.comm.*=all:com.ibm.wsmm.comm.Stats*=all:com.ibm.wsmm.comm.NodeStat*=all:com.ibm.wsmm.grm.*=all:com.ibm.ws.xd.workprofiler.*=all:com.ibm.ws.xd.arfm.*=all:com.ibm.wsmm.policing.*=all:com.ibm.wsmm.xdglue.*=all:com.ibm.ws.clustersensor.impl.*=all:com.ibm.apc.*=all:com.ibm.vespa.*=fine:com.ibm.ws.xd.vv.*=all:com.ibm.ws.vm.*=all:vm.pub=all:com.ibm.venture.*=all:com.ibm.ws.xd.admin.utils.*=all:com.ibm.ws.odc.nd.ODCTreeImpl$Save=all
Once you have recreated with the above tracing enabled, provide all of the logs (trace.log, SystemOut.log, SystemErr.log, apc.log, ffdc, etc...) and target.xml.
Please ensure that the apc.log is among the logs collected as it is key to diagnosing the problem.
2. Run the collector on the Deployment Manager system by following these instructions.
3. For any servers that fail to start, please provide logs from the failed servers and the node agent(s) of the failed server(s) during the same time frame as the traces that were enabled in step 1.
(NOTE: Trace does not have to be enabled on these servers)
4. Due to the verboseness of the logs, please indicate which cluster or cluster members that is demonstrating the problem as well as the time frame when the problem is occurring.

Submitting information to IBM Support
After a case is open, you can submit diagnostic MustGather data to IBM.
