Collecting data for problems with NFS on AIX
The following procedures are for data collection, not for problem diagnosis. Gathering this information before calling IBM support can aid in problem determination and save time resolving Problem Management Records (PMRs).
Using zsnap for NFS
Run # zsnap --NFS
This zsnap command gathers NFS data and creates the testcase file in one step. If you already have a PMR number, see the example below.
Special notes
- For NFS issues in a PowerHA environment: Include the --HACMP option.
- For automount issues when using Directory Server: If you store automount maps in ldap, then you should include the maps by using the ldapsearch command. Put the output in /tmp/ibmsupt/testcase. You may need to create the testcase directory.
Examples
ldapsearch -h hostname.domain.com -D cn=root -w secret -b cn=aixdata "automountMapName=*"
ldapsearch -h hostname.domain.com -D cn=root -w secret -b cn=aixdata "automountInformation=*"
Data
In addition to the information gathered by the snap command, the zsnap command gathers NFS data that include:
- syslog files and /etc/syslog.conf
- alog output of bootlog and console
- files such as inittab and /etc/filesystems and /etc/vfs
- lsfs and scls output
- a kernel name list
- mount output
- cron tab entries
- status on tcb
- security/methods.cfg
- pam and ldap config files
- krb5 logs and permissions
- automount.log
- /tmp/stacks files
- pcnfsd.conf and nfshostkey output
- showmount, exportfs, mount and lsnfsexp outputs
- "nfso -a" output
- exports, xtab, rmtab, and rc.nfs files
- iptrace files in /tmp
- domainname, ypwhich and ypcat outputs
- netgroup file
- "vmo -a" and "ioo -a" output
- output from lparstat, iostat, vmstat, and nfsstat commands
- /etc files including hosts, inetd.conf, rpc, services, resolve.conf, irs.conf, netsvc.conf, rc.net, and rc.tcpip
- "rpcinfo -p" output
- "arp -an" output
- odmget entries for subsystems like automountd, rpc.stated, rpc.lockd, nfsd, biod, gssd, portmap
- ip security command output from lsfilt, ipsecstat, ike, ikedb
Example
See zsnap usage for all available options.
# zsnap --NFS --pmr 12345,123,123
The example gathers the appropriate data and creates a testcase file with the IBM standard naming convention for quicker processing. You will be prompted to send the file to IBM using the FTP protocol. If you don't have a PMR number, omit the --pmr flag to build the testcase file.
You can also run the zsnap command from the AIX SMIT menus.
For information on sending testcase information, read Sending Testcases Electronically.
Using snap for NFS
The snap command is the standard AIX tool that gathers data and stores that information in /tmp/ibmsupt/. The snap command does not gather the following additional NFS related information.
Data
To reduce the possibility of needing to request additional information later, the following information needs to be gathered manually and included in the snap testcase file.
See zsnap Data section above for the information you need to collect.
Sample snap procedure for NFS
See snap usage for all available options
Follow these steps to gather the NFS data.
- Run the snap -r command to remove all previously gathered data.
- Gather the additional information and put it in /tmp/ibmsupt/testcase. You may need to recreate the testcase directory.
- Run # snap -ac
- Rename the testcase file to adhere to IBM testcase file naming conventions and send to IBM.
- For information on sending testcase information, read Sending Testcases Electronically.
