Migrating IBM Spectrum Protect Servers from One Operating System to Another

White Papers

Abstract

You can migrate an IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager) server from one operating system to another. Several methods are available to support the cross-platform migration.

Content

Depending on the server version, and the operating systems of the source and target servers, different methods are available:

  • V6, V7, and V8 servers can be migrated by using node replication to move one or more nodes to another server on any supported operating system. (For more information, see Replicating client data to another server.)
  • Any server version can be migrated by using export and import operations to move one or more nodes to another server on any supported operating system. (For more information, see EXPORT NODE and IMPORT NODE.)
The attached white paper describes two more cross-platform migration methods:
  • The first method relies on database backup and restore operations.
  • The second method uses a variation of the V5 upgrade utilities.
