Mapped Drive Could Not be Created - Not Enough Storage is Available

Troubleshooting

Problem

After changing a password, the following error is received when trying to map a NetServer Network Drive: "The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred. Not enough storage is available to complete the operation."

Resolving The Problem

After changing a password, the following error is received when trying to map a NetServer Network Drive:

The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred.  Not enough storage is available to complete the operation.

Example: There are two domains on the network. The UserID is the same on both domains and so is the password. The iSeries has a different UserID because the domain IDs are too long for the iSeries restrictions. Passwords have been set the same everywhere. After changing passwords, the user was unable to reconnect his NetServer drive. Drives mapped to other resources connect without error.

The PC is not low on storage.

Microsoft does document a similar error in their knowledgebase articles Q106167 and Q177078; however, the recommendations in the articles might not fix the problem.

Potential solutions:

o Add a DNS record on the domain server for the iSeries.

o Flush the existing DNS record by issuing the ipconfig /flushdns command (from a PC DOS command prompt: C:\>).
