IBM Support

Managing local help updates in Rational DOORS and Rational DOORS Web Access

Troubleshooting

Problem

The help system is installed with the IBM Rational DOORS client and on the IBM Rational DOORS Web Access server. If you want help to be delivered dynamically from the information center, you can use the local help updater. The local help updater accesses updated help when it becomes available. However, in certain cases, you might not want to receive updates. The updater might produce a delay in the display of help pages. If you use an older version of the product, you might not want updates from the information center.

Symptom

When you open the help, the local help updater might display a misleading prompt:

This prompt is designed to provide help content for systems that are installed without local help. Because installations of Rational DOORS and Rational DOORS Web Access include the help system, you are never "without help." In this case, this prompt provides the following options:

  • To enable the dynamic retrieval of help from the information center, click Local Help Updater.
  • To continue to use the locally installed help without dynamic updates, click Work without Help. You will still have the full installed local help.

Environment

This technote applies to Rational DOORS version 9.4. To configure remote or local help in version 9.5 and later, see Configuring help content.

Resolving The Problem

You can disable the help updater option to prevent the display of the updater prompt and to prevent the dynamic retrieval of help from the information center.

In the Rational DOORS client, take these steps to disable the help updater option:

  1. Click Help > Preferences or Windows > Preferences. The Preferences window opens.

  2. Expand Help, and click Content.

  3. Select the connection to http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/doorshlp/v9/.

  4. Click Disable and then click OK.

On the Rational DOORS Web Access server, take these steps to disable the help updater option:

  1. Install the server.

  2. Start the server.

  3. Before you open the help system, enter this URL in a browser:

    http://localhost:8080/dwa-help/remote/remotehelp.jsp

    The Network Connections window opens.

  4. Select the DOORS Help entry that points to http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/doorshlp/v9/.

  5. Click Disable and then click Apply.

You can now open the help system. You have access to the full Rational DOORS help system, which is locally installed help.

For more information, see the topics in the "Configuring help content" section in your local help system or on the information center.
